Barista Training Like the Aussies Do

We spend so much time focusing on the coffee making abilities in Europe and South America that often we forget to cast an eye towards Australia! Australia can — after all – boast about having the winner of the 2003 World Barista Championships ( Paul Basset), so why shouldn’t Australia be able to brag about some decent barista training as well?

Welcome to Australia’s premier, purpose-built training facility for baristas. The DGCI is based on Sydney’s beautiful Northern Beaches. They offer courses, accreditation and training for industry professionals, cafe owners and all lovers of fine coffee. Over the years DGCI has trained thousands of students from all over Australia and the world. The programs are unique, envied, emulated and proven.

For less than it costs to put a down payment on a new care, you can treat yourself to an intensive course designed to more thoroughly explain and train students in the art of espresso. DGCI covers correct extraction involving grinder philosophy, grinder adjustment, espresso machine calibration, programming espresso volumes, tamping techniques, correct milk texturing techniques, objective systems, subjective systems, espresso machine troubleshooting and how to complete the full espresso menu.

But that’s just the beginning. This course is a direct follow-on from Institute’s ‘Essence of Espresso” course and aims to practically apply all the teachings in making the full espresso menu, including practice on latte art techniques and full clean up routine. The Espresso Workshop may be repeated as many times as the student would like at a discounted price.

This course includes the second and final part of the nationally accredited unit of competency, the “Prepare & Serve Espresso Coffee” from the Hospitality Training Package. The course is conducted by professional baristas who are also barista competition judges. A Barista Certificate of Completion is issued at the end of the course together with the “Prepare & Serve Espresso Coffee” Accreditation Certificate.

Travel to Australia and see how the other half does it. You’ll be glad you did!
